Ohio Power Bar was my 1st purchase and has served me well. My new SS Texas power bar has a less aggressive knurl but actually feels tackier in the hands. Feels like there is a little more whip-flex to the bar compared to the Ohio which I prefer. Bar came in perfect condition, no regrets and worth the money.
Been using a cheap piece of sh#t last couple of years. Just recently started the NLP starting strength and heard about the SS BAR from Rippetoe on social media so I did my due diligence and purchased one and let me tell you it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. Would recommend to anyone!!
Great barbell . Diameter of 28.5 ( between the 29 of power bars and the 28 of the Olympic bars). Knurl is one of the best. One of the most versatile barbells in the industry. These bars stand up well to constant use in these Starting Strength Gyms . Well done .
I purchased this bar after having used the Starting Strength bar at one of Rip’s seminars in Wichita Falls. The bar was delivered promptly in first class condition. Prior to use, I did give it a good cleaning to remove any machining lubricant from the knurled surface. I have found that the knurling is “just right” - fine enough that it doesn’t tear up your hands and sharp enough that the grip is excellent. The 28.5 mm bar diameter is an easier grab than my previous 30 mm bar. Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase.
I’ve had this bar for over a year and it’s by far my favorite! I also own several AB power bars and others from Ohio. Those are fine too but the knurl, bare steel shaft, collars, sleeves, and diameter make the SS so much better. It’s the sum of the parts which exceeds the whole. The bare steel combined with the medium knurl makes this an unbeatable combination for nearly all lifts. The build quality is second to none with almost no slop in the sleeve or machining of the knurl. I do prefer a 29m bar for squatting but the tackiness of the bare steel more than makes up for difference. I really like the thicker collars which tends to give the bar a nice balance and equilibrium when lifting. I have a Rogue rack (which is 49” wide) and those thicker collars help avoid banging the uprights which is an issue with those thin competition collars on some bars. The bottom line: this is a life long bar and truly exceptional for all your needs. Just get it. I’ve yet to find its limitation.
