Texas Deadlift Bar
Built in Texas

Description
Texas Deadlift Bar (27mm)
Built for Maximum Pulling Performance
Most Whip Competition Deadlift Barbell — USPA/IPL Approved — Made in Texas, USA
The Texas Deadlift Bar is a specialty competition barbell engineered specifically to help you pull more weight. Handbuilt in Texas by Buddy Capps, this bar is the weapon of choice for powerlifters who demand increased whip, superior grip, and elite performance. With a thinner 27mm shaft and an extended 92.5″ length, the Texas Deadlift Bar is designed to flex significantly before the plates leave the floor—giving you a mechanical advantage to break personal records. *USPA & IPL Approved
Why Deadlift Specialists Choose This Bar
- ✓ Maximum Whip (The "Bend"): The 92.5" length and 27mm shaft create extreme flex. This allows you to pull the "slack" out and start the lift higher before the full load leaves the ground.
- ✓ 27mm Thinner Shaft: A thinner diameter means a tighter, more secure hook grip or mixed grip, reducing grip fatigue on maximal attempts.
- ✓ Most Aggressive Knurling: Our signature sharp knurling bites into your hand for absolute security, ensuring the bar never slips when you are locking out a PR.
- ✓ No Center Knurl: The smooth center shaft protects your shins and thighs from abrasion during the setup and the pull.
Built Specifically for the Deadlift
Unlike standard power bars designed to handle all three lifts, the Texas Deadlift Bar is purpose-built for one thing: Pulling Heavy.
The "Science" of the bar is simple but effective: The 190,000 PSI steel shaft is longer and thinner than a standard bar. This design allows the bar to bend (whip) more before the plates actually leave the ground. This means the lifter effectively lifts "less weight" at the very start of the pull—the hardest part of the lift—creating a mechanical advantage. Combined with aggressive knurling and controlled rotation, this bar helps lifters maintain position through maximal attempts.
Proudly made in the USA, every Texas Deadlift Bar is handbuilt using American manufacturing standards trusted since 1980.
Who This Bar Is For
- Competitive male & female powerlifters wanting to maximize their deadlift
- Lifters training for USPA, IPL, and deadlift-only meets
- Athletes struggling with grip strength on thicker bars
- Lifters who pull Sumo or Conventional and want to utilize bar whip
- Gym owners wanting to offer competition-grade equipment

Competition Approved & Meet Ready
The Texas Deadlift Bar is USPA & IPL approved + allowed for 1000's more, making it fully compliant for sanctioned powerlifting meets where deadlift bars are utilized. From local meets to world championships, this American-made barbell remains the preferred choice for lifters chasing record-breaking pulls.
Engineered for The Pull
- High Whip: Helps break the weight off the floor sooner.
- Long Loadable Sleeves: 15.50" sleeves provide ample room for thick competition bumpers or massive iron loads.
- Shin Protection: No center knurl ensures a smooth setup without tearing up your skin.
For lifters chasing heavier deadlifts, these differences add up to meaningful performance gains. If you are serious about your deadlift, you need a bar built for the task.
Technical Specifications — Texas Deadlift Bar

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a deadlift bar different?
A deadlift bar is longer (92.5") and thinner (27mm) than a standard power bar. This increases "whip" (flex), allowing you to pull the slack out of the bar before the full weight leaves the floor.
Why is there no center knurl?
Deadlift bars do not use a center knurl because the bar contacts the shins and thighs during the lift. A smooth center prevents painful abrasion.
Is this bar competition legal?
Yes. The Texas Deadlift Bar is USPA & IPL approved for deadlift events.
Is this bar good for Strongman training?
Absolutely. While built for Powerlifting, the specific attributes (High Whip for the Deadlift Bar, Extreme Stiffness/Thickness for the Monster Squat Bar) make them essential crossover tools for Strongman event preparation, specifically for mimicking the feel of competition implements like the Elephant Bar or Axle/Yoke.
Can I squat with this bar?
No. The high whip/flex makes it unstable for squats and bench press. For those lifts, we recommend the Texas Power Bar or Texas Squat Bar.
Will it fit my rack?
The bar is significantly longer than standard bars (92.5"). While it fits inside most racks, be aware of the extra length when walking around your gym.

Commonly Asked Questions
Commonly Asked Questions
Do Texas Power Bars come with a warranty?
All Texas Power Bars products manufactured by Capps Welding Inc. have a lifetime warranty on craftsmanship. Our bars have a limited lifetime warranty against bending for the original owner under normal use. We do not warrant any item that has been abused, neglected or dumped on rack pins, safety bars, straps, boxes et al. Bushings and bearings will wear over time. If a bushing or bearing should fail/break under normal use this is covered under our warranty for 5 years.
Any bar shaft that is bent will be handled on a case by case basis and the replacement will be at the sole discretion of Capps Welding Inc.
The original customer may ship a bar back for inspection after written authorization is provided.
Proudly Made in Texas for over 40 years.
How should I maintain my barbell to ensure it lasts a lifetime?
Wipe down the shaft and sleeves with a dry cloth after training to remove chalk and sweat. For deeper cleaning, use a stiff nylon brush on the knurling. Lightly oil the sleeves every few months if needed.
Can I use chalk, straps, or liquid grip with my bar?
Yes. Chalk, straps, and liquid grip are all safe to use and won’t void your warranty. We recommend brushing excess chalk out of the knurling regularly.
What’s the best way to clean the knurling and sleeves?
Use a stiff nylon brush to loosen chalk and dirt. Avoid wire brushes, as they can damage the finish. For sleeves, wipe with a dry or lightly oiled cloth.
Will my barbell ever need oiling or lubrication?
Our bronze bushings are self-lubricating and require very little maintenance. Occasionally wiping the sleeves with a cloth and a few drops of light oil will keep them moving smoothly.
Are Texas Power Bars safe to store in a garage or outdoors?
Yes, but keep in mind that extreme humidity or rain exposure can cause surface rust. If storing in a garage, occasional cleaning and oiling will help prevent rust. We don’t recommend outdoor storage without protection.
How long will the knurling stay sharp?
Texas Power Bars are known for their aggressive, long-lasting knurling. With regular use and proper care, the knurling will maintain its bite for decades.
Can my barbell handle dropping with bumper plates?
Yes. Texas Power Bars are built to withstand heavy drops with bumper plates, but they are not designed for repeated drops on bare steel plates or on hard surfaces without protective flooring.
Do the sleeves spin, and what type of bushing system do you use?
Yes. All Texas Power Bars use self-lubricating bronze bushings for a reliable, smooth sleeve rotation without the maintenance needs of needle bearings.
Are these bars approved for competition use?
Yes. The Original Texas Power Bar and Texas Deadlift Bar are widely approved and trusted in federations including IPF, USAPL, and many others.
