History
The Starting Strength bar lineup was designed in 2018 by Buddy Capps and Texas Power Bars at the request of Mark Rippetoe for Starting Strength Gyms. These bars are bare steel all the way, a comfortable 28.5 mm* in diameter with the best knurl in the industry. The collars on the SS bars were redesigned with a bigger (3.25”) **diameter, shorter overall length, which also increases the plate space. The collars and sleeves are machined to a near smooth finish. The shafts have a center knurl (20 kg only) and dual ring marks. The 3-bar lineup includes a 20 kg, a 15 kg, and 10 kg option for all ages and strength levels. A natural steel bar that will age gracefully with your gym, The Starting Strength Bar will be your favorite piece of equipment for decades.
The Goal was to create a bar that would have and keep a better knurled grip. A bar, whose sleeves wouldn’t slide in to the center. A maintenance free bar.

Order placed with 2-3 week expected lead time ... delivered on time, packed extremely well and in perfect condition. Bar is well made and is the only general purpose bar we will ever need for our home gym. Our gym is outside under a carport in the Pacific Northwest ... the bare steel bar does get some flash surface rust on it over time, but it's exposed to wet, cold, very humid weather all winter long. Periodic maintenance with some ScotchBrite or wire brush and 3 in 1 oil keeps the bar looking good. Looking forward to years of lifting with this bar.
I debated for awhile on which bar to get. I’m really glad I went with the Starting Strength bar. The knurling and feel of the bar in your hand is second to none. I’ve been a fan of Texas Bars for years, and this is my favorite one yet.
Great bar love it. Its damn near perfect. I highly recommend it.
Ohio Power Bar was my 1st purchase and has served me well. My new SS Texas power bar has a less aggressive knurl but actually feels tackier in the hands. Feels like there is a little more whip-flex to the bar compared to the Ohio which I prefer. Bar came in perfect condition, no regrets and worth the money.
Been using a cheap piece of sh#t last couple of years. Just recently started the NLP starting strength and heard about the SS BAR from Rippetoe on social media so I did my due diligence and purchased one and let me tell you it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. Would recommend to anyone!!
