Texas Squat Bar
Built in Texas

Description
Texas Squat Bar — Built for Heavy Squat Training & COMPETITION
Top Pick For Max Load Squats
31.75mm Shaft — 55lbs / 25kg — FSA/HSA Eligible
The Texas Squat Bar is a specialized squat barbell engineered for lifters who demand maximum stability, reduced bar whip, and total confidence under heavy loads. Handbuilt in Texas by Buddy Capps since 1980, this bar is designed specifically for serious squat training, competition preparation, and long-term strength development.
Featuring a massive 31.75mm diameter shaft, 200,000 PSI tensile strength steel, and a heavier overall build (55lbs), the Texas Squat Bar delivers exceptional rigidity and control. Whether you squat Low Bar or High Bar, this is not a multipurpose bar — it is a dedicated squat tool designed to perform when the weight is heavy and precision matters most.
Why Serious Squatters Choose This Bar
The Texas Squat Bar is purpose-built to remove instability and uncertainty from the squat. Here is why it wins:
- ✓ 31.75mm Shaft Diameter: Extra thick shaft drastically reduces whip and eliminates oscillation for near zero bend during the descent.
- ✓ 55 lbs / 25 kg Weight: The heavier bar build adds mass for greater rack walkout stability and load control.
- ✓ 6" Center Knurl: A wide, aggressive center knurl locks the bar securely across the upper back to prevent rolling on low-bar setups.
- ✓ 200k Tensile Strength: Ultra-premium steel engineered to withstand decades of heavy squatting without permanent bending.
Engineered Specifically for Squat Performance
Squat-specific barbells differ from power or all-purpose bars by emphasizing stiffness, balance, and bar control over versatility.
The 31.75mm shaft significantly reduces flex compared to standard power bars, allowing lifters to maintain upper-back tightness throughout the entire movement. This stiffness minimizes unwanted oscillation (whip) during descent and ascent, helping lifters stay in position and maintain a consistent bar path.
When lifters approach near-max or max attempts, these design features create a more stable and confidence-inspiring lift.
Who This Bar Is Best For
- Powerlifters preparing for competition
- Lifters running heavy squat specialization cycles
- Collegiate and professional strength programs
- Athletes training for maximal leg strength
- Home gyms focused on elite squat performance
Note: This bar weighs 55lbs (25kg), which is heavier than the standard 45lb (20kg) bar.
Why Squat Bars Matter Under Heavy Loads
As squat weights increase, small amounts of bar whip can translate into instability, loss of tightness, and missed reps.
The Texas Squat Bar’s thicker shaft and heavier build reduce these variables by minimizing bar flex during the descent and reducing oscillation at the bottom of the "hole." For advanced lifters and competitors, these advantages can make the difference between a successful lift and a missed attempt.
Engineered for Stability
- Minimal Whip: 31.75mm thickness eliminates the "bounciness" of standard bars.
- Extended Length: 96.5" overall length accommodates ultra-wide stances and fills out wide competition racks.
- Maximum Grip: Aggressive 6" center knurl ensures the bar stays planted on your traps.
This bar represents decades of Texas craftsmanship and squat-specific refinement — a tool built to perform when the weight gets serious.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Texas Squat Bar better for Low Bar or High Bar squats?
It is excellent for both. For Low Bar Squats, the 6" center knurl creates a "shelf" that locks onto the rear delts to prevent sliding. For High Bar Squats, the 31.75mm thickness displaces the load more comfortably across the traps compared to a thinner bar.
What makes a squat bar different from a power bar?
Squat bars are thicker (31.75mm), heavier (55lbs), and stiff. These characteristics reduce whip and increase stability. A standard power bar may flex or "whip" coming out of the hole, which can throw off your balance.
Does the Texas Squat Bar have a center knurl?
Yes. The bar features a 6" aggressive center knurl designed to keep the bar securely positioned on your traps during heavy squats.
Will this bar fit my power rack?
Most full-size power racks and squat stands accommodate this bar. However, the bar is longer (96.5") and wider between collars (57.5") than a standard bar, so compact racks should be measured first.
How much does the Texas Squat Bar weigh?
The bar weighs 55 lbs / 25 kg. This is 10lbs heavier than a standard barbell.
Is the Texas Squat Bar made in the USA?
Yes. The Texas Squat Bar is handbuilt in Texas and proudly made in the USA.

Commonly Asked Questions
Do Texas Power Bars come with a warranty?
All Texas Power Bars products manufactured by Capps Welding Inc. have a lifetime warranty on craftsmanship. Our bars have a limited lifetime warranty against bending for the original owner under normal use. We do not warrant any item that has been abused, neglected or dumped on rack pins, safety bars, straps, boxes et al. Bushings and bearings will wear over time. If a bushing or bearing should fail/break under normal use this is covered under our warranty for 5 years.
Any bar shaft that is bent will be handled on a case by case basis and the replacement will be at the sole discretion of Capps Welding Inc.
The original customer may ship a bar back for inspection after written authorization is provided.
Proudly Made in Texas for over 40 years.
How should I maintain my barbell to ensure it lasts a lifetime?
Wipe down the shaft and sleeves with a dry cloth after training to remove chalk and sweat. For deeper cleaning, use a stiff nylon brush on the knurling. Lightly oil the sleeves every few months if needed.
Can I use chalk, straps, or liquid grip with my bar?
Yes. Chalk, straps, and liquid grip are all safe to use and won’t void your warranty. We recommend brushing excess chalk out of the knurling regularly.
What’s the best way to clean the knurling and sleeves?
Use a stiff nylon brush to loosen chalk and dirt. Avoid wire brushes, as they can damage the finish. For sleeves, wipe with a dry or lightly oiled cloth.
Will my barbell ever need oiling or lubrication?
Our bronze bushings are self-lubricating and require very little maintenance. Occasionally wiping the sleeves with a cloth and a few drops of light oil will keep them moving smoothly.
Are Texas Power Bars safe to store in a garage or outdoors?
Yes, but keep in mind that extreme humidity or rain exposure can cause surface rust. If storing in a garage, occasional cleaning and oiling will help prevent rust. We don’t recommend outdoor storage without protection.
How long will the knurling stay sharp?
Texas Power Bars are known for their aggressive, long-lasting knurling. With regular use and proper care, the knurling will maintain its bite for decades.
Can my barbell handle dropping with bumper plates?
Yes. Texas Power Bars are built to withstand heavy drops with bumper plates, but they are not designed for repeated drops on bare steel plates or on hard surfaces without protective flooring.
Do the sleeves spin, and what type of bushing system do you use?
Yes. All Texas Power Bars use self-lubricating bronze bushings for a reliable, smooth sleeve rotation without the maintenance needs of needle bearings.
Are these bars approved for competition use?
Yes. The Original Texas Power Bar and Texas Deadlift Bar are widely approved and trusted in federations including IPF, USAPL, and many others.
