Built in Texas

Description
Texas Cross Bar (20kg / 44lb)
Top Pick For Dynamic Olympic & CrossFit Functional Movements
28.5mm Shaft — Fine Knurl — FSA/HSA Eligible
The Texas Cross Bar is a specialty barbell engineered specifically for CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting, and high-rep conditioning. While other bars are built for static strength, this bar is built for speed, turnover, and repetition. The Texas Cross Bar features a 28.5mm shaft and smooth bronze bushings that provide just the right amount of whip for consistent and precise turnover you can count on. Whether you are cycling snatches or hitting a heavy clean and jerk, this bar delivers the performance you need without the aggressive bite of a power bar.
Unlock Peak Performance
Top pick for dynamic movements. Here is why athletes choose the Cross Bar:
- ✓ Fine Knurling: A less aggressive fine grip allows for more comfort while doing complex movements and high-rep barbell cycling.
- ✓ Smooth Turnover: Bronze bushings provide consistent rotation, allowing for precise catch positions in the Clean and Snatch.
- ✓ No Center Knurl: A comfortable grip that protects your neck and collarbone during Cleans, Thrusters, and Front Squats.
- ✓ 28.5mm Shaft: Versatile 190k tensile strength steel offers the perfect balance of stiffness and whip for dynamic lifts.
Designed for the WOD
In high-intensity training, your hands are your most valuable asset. The Fine Knurling on the Texas Cross Bar is specifically designed to be grippy enough for a heavy pull, but passive enough to prevent tearing your hands during sets of 20+ reps.
Who This Bar Is Best For
- CrossFit Athletes: Who need a bar that can handle high volume without shredding hands.
- Olympic Lifters: Seeking a durable training bar with good spin and whip.
- Functional Fitness Gyms: Needing equipment that survives dropping and daily abuse.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a competition-legal Olympic barbell?
Yes. The 20 kg Texas Cross Bar meets standard Olympic barbell dimensions and IWF specifications, making it ideal for training across all disciplines.
Does it have a center knurl?
No. The center of the shaft is smooth. This prevents the bar from scraping your neck during Cleans, Front Squats, and high-rep Thrusters.
What is "Fine" knurling?
Unlike the sharp "aggressive" knurling on our Power Bars, fine knurling is smoother. It provides enough grip for lifting but is much less abrasive, which is critical when doing sets of 20+ reps or dynamic movements.
Can I drop this bar?
Yes. This bar is built for Olympic lifting and functional fitness. When used with bumper plates on a proper platform/mat, it is designed to be dropped.
How does this compare to the Texas All American Bar?
The Texas Cross Bar features Fine Knurling and is optimized specifically for dynamic/Olympic movements. The All American Bar is a general-purpose bar with slightly more aggressive knurling intended for general strength training.

Commonly Asked Questions
Commonly Asked Questions
Do Texas Power Bars come with a warranty?
All Texas Power Bars products manufactured by Capps Welding Inc. have a lifetime warranty on craftsmanship. Our bars have a limited lifetime warranty against bending for the original owner under normal use. We do not warrant any item that has been abused, neglected or dumped on rack pins, safety bars, straps, boxes et al. Bushings and bearings will wear over time. If a bushing or bearing should fail/break under normal use this is covered under our warranty for 5 years.
Any bar shaft that is bent will be handled on a case by case basis and the replacement will be at the sole discretion of Capps Welding Inc.
The original customer may ship a bar back for inspection after written authorization is provided.
Proudly Made in Texas for over 40 years.
How should I maintain my barbell to ensure it lasts a lifetime?
Wipe down the shaft and sleeves with a dry cloth after training to remove chalk and sweat. For deeper cleaning, use a stiff nylon brush on the knurling. Lightly oil the sleeves every few months if needed.
Can I use chalk, straps, or liquid grip with my bar?
Yes. Chalk, straps, and liquid grip are all safe to use and won’t void your warranty. We recommend brushing excess chalk out of the knurling regularly.
What’s the best way to clean the knurling and sleeves?
Use a stiff nylon brush to loosen chalk and dirt. Avoid wire brushes, as they can damage the finish. For sleeves, wipe with a dry or lightly oiled cloth.
Will my barbell ever need oiling or lubrication?
Our bronze bushings are self-lubricating and require very little maintenance. Occasionally wiping the sleeves with a cloth and a few drops of light oil will keep them moving smoothly.
Are Texas Power Bars safe to store in a garage or outdoors?
Yes, but keep in mind that extreme humidity or rain exposure can cause surface rust. If storing in a garage, occasional cleaning and oiling will help prevent rust. We don’t recommend outdoor storage without protection.
How long will the knurling stay sharp?
Texas Power Bars are known for their aggressive, long-lasting knurling. With regular use and proper care, the knurling will maintain its bite for decades.
Can my barbell handle dropping with bumper plates?
Yes. Texas Power Bars are built to withstand heavy drops with bumper plates, but they are not designed for repeated drops on bare steel plates or on hard surfaces without protective flooring.
Do the sleeves spin, and what type of bushing system do you use?
Yes. All Texas Power Bars use self-lubricating bronze bushings for a reliable, smooth sleeve rotation without the maintenance needs of needle bearings.
Are these bars approved for competition use?
Yes. The Original Texas Power Bar and Texas Deadlift Bar are widely approved and trusted in federations including IPF, USAPL, and many others.
