Description
Texas Bodybuilding Bar (27mm)
Top Pick For Muscle Isolation & Hypertrophy
27mm Shaft — Triple Knurl Marks — FSA/HSA Eligible
The Texas Bodybuilding Bar is a specialty barbell designed specifically for bodybuilding, hypertrophy training, and lifters focused on maximum muscle development. Made in Texas by Buddy Capps since 1980, this bar is the weapon of choice for famous bodybuilders and hypertrophy athletes—such as Branch Warren—who demand precision tools for building size and symmetry.
Designed for isolation and versatile strength work, this bar allows athletes to target muscles precisely. With a thinner 27mm shaft for optimal grip, medium knurling, and unique triple knurl marks, it is engineered for curls, rows, shrugs, and accessory lifts. Built to thrive in high-volume training programs, this bar is your go-to tool for building a championship physique.
Why Bodybuilders Choose This Bar
Top pick for muscle isolation movements like curls, raises, pulls, and shrugs. Here is why it wins:
- ✓ Triple Knurl Marks: A unique feature allowing for precise, repeatable hand placement for muscle isolation—the most precise of all bars for maximum gains.
- ✓ 27mm Shaft Diameter: Thinner shaft provides optimal grip and greater whip (flex), enhancing the feel of pulling movements with or without straps.
- ✓ Medium Knurling: Strikes the perfect balance between aggressive and passive to be more forgiving on your hands during high-rep isolation sets.
- ✓ 6" Center Knurl: Provides necessary stability for back squats and lunges without being overly abrasive.
Mr. Olympia Awaits
While power bars are built for moving maximal weight from point A to point B, the Texas Bodybuilding Bar is built for the feel of the movement.
The slimmer 27mm shaft and Triple Knurl Marks make this the most precise tool for muscle isolation. Whether you are performing strict barbell curls, upright rows, or skull crushers, the thinner diameter reduces forearm fatigue, allowing you to focus the tension entirely on the target muscle group.
Who This Bar Is Best For
- Bodybuilders focused on hypertrophy and symmetry
- Athletes who need "Triple Knurl Marks" for precise grip width
- Lifters who find 29mm bars too thick for curls and rows
- Commercial gyms catering to serious physique athletes
- Trainers running high-volume, high-rep programs
"Designed for hypertrophy, isolation, and versatile strength work."
Forgiving on the Hands
When you are training for volume, the last thing you want is a torn callus ending your session. The Medium Knurling on this bar is specifically designed to be sticky enough for heavy rows but forgiving enough for sets of 15-20 reps. It strikes the perfect balance for the bodybuilder who trains daily.
Engineered for Muscle Growth
- Versatility: Optimized for presses, curls, rows, shrugs, and squats.
- Durability: 190,000 PSI steel withstands heavy use in commercial environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the benefit of the Triple Knurl Marks?
The triple marks allow you to consistently set your hands at different widths for different exercises (e.g., Close Grip Bench vs. Wide Grip Bench) without guessing. This precision is key for targeting specific muscle heads.
What is the difference between this and the Texas Power Bar?
The Bodybuilding Bar has a 27mm shaft (vs 29mm) and Medium Knurling (vs Aggressive). This makes it better suited for high-rep training, curls, and accessory work where a thick, sharp bar causes fatigue.
Does it have a center knurl?
Yes. It features a 6" center knurl to ensure stability during back squats and lunges.
Why is the shaft thinner (27mm)?
A thinner shaft is easier to grip for pulling movements (rows, deadlifts, cleans) and allows for a slight amount of flex (whip), which creates a smoother feeling during dynamic lifts.
Can I use this for Powerlifting?
You can, but for competition-specific training (Squat/Bench/Deadlift), we recommend the Original Texas Power Bar as it matches federation specs closer than the Bodybuilding Bar.
Not Sure Which Bar Is Right For You?
With over 45 years of specialized barbell manufacturing, we have the perfect tool for every lift. You can compare our full lineup of barbells here to find the exact diameter and flex for your training style.

Commonly Asked Questions
Commonly Asked Questions
Do Texas Power Bars come with a warranty?
All Texas Power Bars products manufactured by Capps Welding Inc. have a lifetime warranty on craftsmanship. Our bars have a limited lifetime warranty against bending for the original owner under normal use. We do not warrant any item that has been abused, neglected or dumped on rack pins, safety bars, straps, boxes et al. Bushings and bearings will wear over time. If a bushing or bearing should fail/break under normal use this is covered under our warranty for 5 years.
Any bar shaft that is bent will be handled on a case by case basis and the replacement will be at the sole discretion of Capps Welding Inc.
The original customer may ship a bar back for inspection after written authorization is provided.
Proudly Made in Texas for over 40 years.
How should I maintain my barbell to ensure it lasts a lifetime?
Wipe down the shaft and sleeves with a dry cloth after training to remove chalk and sweat. For deeper cleaning, use a stiff nylon brush on the knurling. Lightly oil the sleeves every few months if needed.
Can I use chalk, straps, or liquid grip with my bar?
Yes. Chalk, straps, and liquid grip are all safe to use and won’t void your warranty. We recommend brushing excess chalk out of the knurling regularly.
What’s the best way to clean the knurling and sleeves?
Use a stiff nylon brush to loosen chalk and dirt. Avoid wire brushes, as they can damage the finish. For sleeves, wipe with a dry or lightly oiled cloth.
Will my barbell ever need oiling or lubrication?
Our bronze bushings are self-lubricating and require very little maintenance. Occasionally wiping the sleeves with a cloth and a few drops of light oil will keep them moving smoothly.
Are Texas Power Bars safe to store in a garage or outdoors?
Yes, but keep in mind that extreme humidity or rain exposure can cause surface rust. If storing in a garage, occasional cleaning and oiling will help prevent rust. We don’t recommend outdoor storage without protection.
How long will the knurling stay sharp?
Texas Power Bars are known for their aggressive, long-lasting knurling. With regular use and proper care, the knurling will maintain its bite for decades.
Can my barbell handle dropping with bumper plates?
Yes. Texas Power Bars are built to withstand heavy drops with bumper plates, but they are not designed for repeated drops on bare steel plates or on hard surfaces without protective flooring.
Do the sleeves spin, and what type of bushing system do you use?
Yes. All Texas Power Bars use self-lubricating bronze bushings for a reliable, smooth sleeve rotation without the maintenance needs of needle bearings.
Are these bars approved for competition use?
Yes. The Original Texas Power Bar and Texas Deadlift Bar are widely approved and trusted in federations including IPF, USAPL, and many others.
