Marrs-Bar Safety Squat

Description
Marrs-Bar Safety Squat Bar
The Patented Hands-Free Squat & Rehab Solution
Made in USA — 1200lb Capacity — FSA/HSA Eligible
The famous Marrs-Bar is the ultimate evolution of the traditional Safety Squat Bar (SSB). Designed to completely change how your body handles weight, this patented bar redistributes the load like a "backpack." This unique design limits axial loading on the neck and back, drastically reducing direct stress on the cervical spine, shoulders, hips, and knees.
Whether you are an athlete rehabbing an injury, dealing with limited shoulder mobility, or a healthy lifter wanting to overload the legs with maximum comfort, the Marrs-Bar allows you to focus on your form rather than your discomfort. It is the premier tool for hands-free back squats, front squats, lunges, and good mornings.
Why The Marrs-Bar Outperforms Standard SSBs
Most safety squat bars choke the neck or pitch you forward. The Marrs-Bar fixes this completely:
- ✓ The "Backpack" Harness: Custom molded high-density memory foam wraps around your shoulders, preventing the bar from resting on or pinching your neck and cervical spine.
- ✓ True Hands-Free Stability: The bar locks perfectly into your center of gravity, allowing you to squat completely hands-free while maintaining an upright, athletic posture.
- ✓ 1200lb Heavy-Duty Capacity: Built in the USA from a massive 1.5" solid steel bar to easily handle world-class loads.
- ✓ Standard Collar Fit: Unlike many specialty bars, the chrome sleeves on the Marrs-Bar accept standard Olympic barbell collars.
Train Around Injuries. Squat Without Pain.
Shoulder, elbow, and wrist mobility issues frequently stop athletes from performing a traditional straight-bar back squat. Because the Marrs-Bar allows you to grip the handles naturally in front of your body (or not hold on at all), you can completely bypass the upper extremities and safely overload your lower body.
For those dealing with lower back pain, the Marrs-Bar alters the leverage point of the squat, enforcing a more upright torso. This reduces shear force on the lumbar spine, making it a staple tool for physical therapy, sports rehab, and longevity in strength training.
More Than Just Back Squats
While famous for the hands-free back squat, the Marrs-Bar's unique weight distribution makes it an incredibly versatile training tool for your entire lower body:
- Front Squats: Traditional front squats require immense wrist and lat mobility. The Marrs-Bar allows you to comfortably front squat by simply reversing the harness—delivering brutal quad isolation without the wrist pain or choking sensation.
- Good Mornings: Because the bar locks into your center of gravity and won't roll up your neck, you can confidently overload your hamstrings and glutes with heavy good mornings while maintaining perfect spinal alignment.
- Lunges & Bulgarian Split Squats: Balance is the hardest part of heavy unilateral leg work. The "backpack" feel of the Marrs-Bar frees up your hands to hold onto a rack for balance, allowing you to push your leg strength to the absolute limit.
- Hatfield Squats: The hands-free design is tailor-made for Hatfield Squats. Hold the rack uprights to push through sticking points and overload the legs safely beyond your normal max.
Who This Specialty Bar Is For
- Lifters with Mobility Issues: Anyone with shoulder, elbow, or wrist pain that makes straight-bar squatting impossible.
- Rehab & Physical Therapy: Athletes recovering from lower back or cervical spine injuries.
- Powerlifters & Bodybuilders: Looking to overload the quads safely during high-volume hypertrophy phases.
- Commercial Gyms: Offering premium, accessible equipment to members of all physical abilities.
"The greatest innovation in lower body training since the squat rack."
Available in Two Weights
To accommodate athletes of all sizes and strength levels, the Marrs-Bar is available in two versions. The Standard Version weighs 65 lbs, providing a massive, indestructible base for heavy lifters. The LITE Version weighs 35 lbs, making it the perfect starting point for beginners, physical therapy patients, and youth athletes.
What's Included & Easy Setup
To ensure safe transit, the Marrs-Bar requires minimal assembly out of the box. Your package includes:
- 1x Marrs-Bar Frame & Harness
- 1x Replaceable Custom Foam Pad
- 2x Olympic Plate Chrome Sleeves
- 2x Set Screws & 1/4" Allen Wrench
Setup in Minutes: Simply rotate the weight plate sleeves within the foam cradle until the set screw hole is visible. Slide the sleeve onto the cambered bar end until fully seated (you'll feel it “click” into position), and firmly tighten the set screw using the provided Allen wrench. Repeat for the other side. Periodically inspect and retighten set screws.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Marrs-Bar and a traditional Safety Squat Bar (SSB)?
Traditional SSBs sit high on the neck and tend to pitch the lifter forward, putting immense strain on the cervical and lumbar spine. The Marrs-Bar harness is angled to wrap over the shoulders, dropping the center of gravity and redistributing the weight like a backpack. This allows you to stay upright and eliminates neck pinching.
Can I use standard barbell collars on the Marrs-Bar?
Yes! Unlike many specialty bars that require specialized axle collars, the Marrs-Bar features standard 2" Chrome sleeves. Your regular spring clips or lock-jaw collars will fit perfectly.
Should I get the 65lb Standard or 35lb LITE version?
The 65lb version is ideal for general strength trainees, powerlifters, and commercial gyms. The 35lb LITE version is perfect for beginners, youth athletes, and physical therapy patients who need a lower starting weight.
Is the padding durable?
Absolutely. The custom-molded polyurethane memory foam is highly resilient. It will not break down, flatten, or rip easily like the cheap foam rollers found on budget safety squat bars.

Commonly Asked Questions
Do Texas Power Bars come with a warranty?
All Texas Power Bars products manufactured by Capps Welding Inc. have a lifetime warranty on craftsmanship. Our bars have a limited lifetime warranty against bending for the original owner under normal use. We do not warrant any item that has been abused, neglected or dumped on rack pins, safety bars, straps, boxes et al. Bushings and bearings will wear over time. If a bushing or bearing should fail/break under normal use this is covered under our warranty for 5 years.
Any bar shaft that is bent will be handled on a case by case basis and the replacement will be at the sole discretion of Capps Welding Inc.
The original customer may ship a bar back for inspection after written authorization is provided.
Proudly Made in Texas for over 40 years.
How should I maintain my barbell to ensure it lasts a lifetime?
Wipe down the shaft and sleeves with a dry cloth after training to remove chalk and sweat. For deeper cleaning, use a stiff nylon brush on the knurling. Lightly oil the sleeves every few months if needed.
Can I use chalk, straps, or liquid grip with my bar?
Yes. Chalk, straps, and liquid grip are all safe to use and won’t void your warranty. We recommend brushing excess chalk out of the knurling regularly.
What’s the best way to clean the knurling and sleeves?
Use a stiff nylon brush to loosen chalk and dirt. Avoid wire brushes, as they can damage the finish. For sleeves, wipe with a dry or lightly oiled cloth.
Will my barbell ever need oiling or lubrication?
Our bronze bushings are self-lubricating and require very little maintenance. Occasionally wiping the sleeves with a cloth and a few drops of light oil will keep them moving smoothly.
Are Texas Power Bars safe to store in a garage or outdoors?
Yes, but keep in mind that extreme humidity or rain exposure can cause surface rust. If storing in a garage, occasional cleaning and oiling will help prevent rust. We don’t recommend outdoor storage without protection.
How long will the knurling stay sharp?
Texas Power Bars are known for their aggressive, long-lasting knurling. With regular use and proper care, the knurling will maintain its bite for decades.
Can my barbell handle dropping with bumper plates?
Yes. Texas Power Bars are built to withstand heavy drops with bumper plates, but they are not designed for repeated drops on bare steel plates or on hard surfaces without protective flooring.
Do the sleeves spin, and what type of bushing system do you use?
Yes. All Texas Power Bars use self-lubricating bronze bushings for a reliable, smooth sleeve rotation without the maintenance needs of needle bearings.
Are these bars approved for competition use?
Yes. The Original Texas Power Bar and Texas Deadlift Bar are widely approved and trusted in federations including IPF, USAPL, and many others.
